Care Instructions
Proper garment care is the key to keeping your MARYLAND DTF prints vibrant, flexible, and long-lasting. DTF transfers are built for durability, but how the garment is washed, dried, and handled after pressing makes a big difference in how long the design stays looking fresh. Follow the instructions below to protect color, prevent lifting, and extend the life of every print.
After Pressing: First 24 Hours Matter
Right after pressing, the adhesive and ink need time to fully stabilize.
Do this:
-
Wait 24 hours before the first wash
-
Store the garment flat or folded (avoid stretching the print area)
-
Keep it away from excessive heat or steam
Avoid:
-
Washing immediately after pressing
-
Excessive bending or stretching over the print area
Washing Instructions (Best Practices)
To preserve print quality, wash garments using gentle settings.
Recommended washing method:
-
Turn garment inside out
-
Wash in cold water (or cool water)
-
Use a gentle cycle
-
Use mild detergent
Avoid:
-
Hot water
-
Bleach
-
Harsh detergents
-
Fabric softeners (can reduce long-term durability)
Turning the garment inside out reduces friction against the print and helps prevent premature wear.
Drying Instructions
Heat and friction are the biggest threats to long-term print life. Drying correctly helps prevent cracking and lifting.
Best option:
-
Air dry whenever possible
If using a dryer:
-
Tumble dry low heat
-
Remove promptly to avoid extra heat exposure
Avoid:
-
High heat drying
-
Over-drying
-
Leaving garments in a hot dryer for long periods
Ironing & Heat Exposure
Direct heat on the print can damage the design.
If ironing is needed:
-
Turn garment inside out
-
Use low heat
-
Keep the iron off the print area
Never:
-
Iron directly on the printed design
-
Place the garment on extremely hot surfaces
Stain Removal (Safe Method)
If the garment needs stain treatment:
Do this:
-
Treat stains gently
-
Use mild stain remover
-
Apply on the inside of the garment when possible
-
Wash immediately after treatment
Avoid:
-
Strong chemicals on the print
-
Scrubbing directly on the design
How to Store Printed Garments
Proper storage helps prints maintain shape and appearance.
Recommended:
-
Fold garments with the print lying flat
-
Hang items carefully without stretching the print area
-
Store in a cool, dry place
Avoid:
-
Storing in damp environments
-
Folding sharply through thick print areas for long periods
Tips to Maximize Print Longevity
For the best long-term results:
-
Wash inside out every time
-
Use cold water and mild detergent
-
Avoid bleach and fabric softener
-
Dry low heat or air dry
-
Keep high heat away from the print
These simple habits protect both color and adhesion for the life of the garment.
If You Notice Peeling or Lifting
In some cases, improper washing, high heat, or uneven pressing can cause lifting.
If you notice an edge lifting:
-
Place a protective sheet over the design
-
Press for 3–5 seconds with medium pressure
-
Let cool, then check adhesion
